Sunday Morning Worship

A Firebrand is both something physical/literal and a metaphorical descriptor of a type of person. Literally, it is the burning wood within the fire, sometimes the parts that dance in embers over the flame, sometimes the parts hot in the woodpile, and sometimes the part which is launched out of the fire, creating new flame elsewhere. As a descriptor of people, it means a person who is impassioned to a cause, ethic, or belief. This can be like the women who fought for the right to vote, or the people who marched for racial equality.

In the Book of Acts as well as today, there are people who are growing hot in the Spirit within the Church community. If we leave the community before we are developed enough, we can fizzle out, but the ones we are talking about are the ones who build their own community of faith…
