Maundy Thursday Tenebrae Service

Maundy Thursday remembers the final night Jesus spent with his disciples, the sharing of the last supper, and the command to love one another as he loved. This Tenebrae service invites us into the deepening shadows of Holy Week through scripture, silence, and gradually extinguished light.

Tenebrae means “darkness,” and this service is designed to help us sit with the weight of the story. We will move through readings that trace Jesus’ final hours, accompanied by moments of reflection and stillness, allowing the space to grow quieter and darker as we approach the reality of the cross.

This service will be hosted by Brookmeade and is open to both congregations and the wider community. It is a contemplative, emotionally grounded experience that prepares our hearts for Good Friday and Easter.
